Brazilian food company Agrodanieli recently launched the first omega-3 chicken in Brazil, targeting the growing market of health conscious consumers.

For the production of the meat enriched with omega-3, the birds receive a special feed that is supplemented with omega-3 and was developed by the company itself. The feeding program is currently used in 60 automated poultry houses with modern facilities.

There are many different omega-3 products on the market, including capsules and different types of foods, but Agrodanieli is the first to introduce omega-3 fortified poultry. Photo: Agrodanieli

Omega-3 is a polyunsaturated fatty acid with several human health benefits, including heart protection, improved immune function, and better protection against inflammatory diseases.

However, the human body itself is unable to synthesize omega-3. Hence, it must be ingested with food if one is to receive these health benefits. There are many different omega-3 products on the market, including capsules and different types of foods, but Agrodanieli is the first to introduce omega-3 fortified poultry.

The company, which employs 2,400 people in Tapejara in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, oversees the entire production process from feed production to aviaries, slaughterhouses and processing plants to the end products.

All of the omega-3 fortified chicken called ProVitta is sold in the Brazilian market or exported to South America, the Middle East, and Asia.

Innovative chicken packaging

The omega-3 fortified chicken, like other Agrodanieli products, is packaged in innovative ways to increase food safety. The new horizontal packaging machine has a pull-out film system that uses liquid-leak-proof packaging material, resulting in longer product shelf life.

The packaging also contains a QR code that provides consumers with information about the traceability of the product. This includes data on the chickens, the producer, the location of the aviary, the slaughter date and additional information on omega-3 and feed.
